We are heading to Marrakech, Morocco June 30-July 6, 2024 to collaborate with Peacock Pavillions Hotel in order to bring you the retreat and venue of a lifetime.
Description:
Awakening Within… creating a soul path
We endeavor to ‘come into community’ through sustainable tourism, local volunteerism when possible, cultural exchange, thoughtful discussion and optional Yoga/Mindfulness Meditation practices for self-care in a place that is remarkable in its beauty, far from home and unfamiliar. Navigating travel and a new environment/culture, having new experiences and meeting new people can take us out of our rote, habitual routine and bring us opportunities (a soul path) to wake up (awakening within), pay more attention, learn and grow.
Our optional yoga practices will focus on two styles of Hatha Yoga- an all levels (this means appropriate for beginners) morning energizing flow and an all levels evening relaxing yin/meditative style with varying degrees of emphasis on postures, breathing and focused concentration/mindfulness meditation techniques.
An optional “Mindfulness… stepping into the flow”, Meditation Program will be offered on select days for those who desire it. (This program is approved by the NCBTMB and, gives Massage Therapists
24 continuing education units for self care).
How these practices contribute to overall wellness and self care in addition to the differences between formal and informal practices will be discussed in order to clarify how the practice can facilitate increased awareness, better choices and potentially more wellness and joy in one’s life. This is stepping into the flow, touching life deeply, being mindful. This is for EVERYone.
This combination of yoga/mindfulness meditation practices, sharing, a journaling workshop, free time, planned excursions with opportunities to plan your own (our venue will help), shared meals, karma yoga with Project SOAR- a support system for girls ages 12-18 that helps facilitate and advocate for education, good choices, ending childhood marriage, and empowerment started by our venue owner in 2012, and a final celebration will reinforce our sense of connection with self, others and the environment.
All sessions, practices, excursions and so forth are completely optional (unless you are receiving NCBTMB approved CEs) and may be adjusted based upon the needs of the group, our scheduled excursions and activities, and meal times. We intend to have structure but with a bit of built in flexibility… kinda like life!😉
Sunday afternoon of the first day of our retreat we will settle into our rooms. Check in is at 3pm. An all levels flow yoga practice will be offered at 5p before our first dinner followed by a Welcome Circle which will consist of getting acquainted, going over the agenda and setting our individual as well as community intentions for the week. Our hosts at the venue will inform us of other opportunities for activities and excursions that are not included in your fee for those who desire further exploration.
On our last day together, Friday, the yin yoga and meditation practice will take place in the morning and include closing our retreat with sharing and intention setting for when we get home followed by free time and an evening celebration with an included Cocktail Party and Farewell Dinner.
There will be one more yoga practice Saturday morning before breakfast and departure.
Please note: you do not have to be good at or even like doing yoga postures. That is a very small part of the retreat. Everything is optional.
We recommend coming into the country ahead of the retreat to acclimate to the time change and culture; and, to sight see. The cooler coastal or mountainous areas are encouraged.
Yoga Teachers will receive ~24 hours of Yoga Alliance approved CEs for all of the yoga practices, the mindfulness meditation program and journaling workshop, the getting acquainted activity and the closing, as well as CEs for the karma yoga project. These are all optional and you will receive CEs based on how often you attend.
For NC Massage Therapists, Jeri can give you 6 NCBTMB approved CEs for two separate courses- engaging in 3 hours of karma yoga with Project SOAR and attending an Ethics course for 3 hours. 18 more hours for the Mindfulness Meditation Program are pending approval. You can receive ALL 24 required CEs for NC License renewal. 21 of these hours are for self care. You must attend ALL required sessions to receive CEs.

Extra Stuff:
>If you need to make payments, we will work with you on a payment plan.
>Visas/vaccinations are NOT required to enter Morocco. Yes, you need a passport. 😊
> There are direct flights to Casablanca from JFK, Washington DC, and Miami that are under 8 hrs. There is a rail system that can transport from Casablanca to Marrakech in under 2.5 hrs. Marrakech does have its own airport so you can fly into it from the states, but it is not direct.
>Morocco is 5 hours ahead of North Carolina.
>Moroccans use local currency. They don’t have international currency, but Euros and USD are accepted and you can exchange these once in country for the local currency (Moroccan Dirham).
>Average daily temperature in June/early July is in the mid 80s (this is dry heat not humid heat, so much more tolerable. And, the coast, mountains and eastern desert are much cooler).
>Morocco is one of the safest countries in the world. And, it is very close (8 miles by ferry) to Southern Spain and Portugal (Maybe fly into Spain before the retreat and take the ferry to Morocco?). 😊
>High speed rail connects the larger cities in Morocco making travel easy and inexpensive.
Thank you for considering this adventure and trusting us to guide your experience.
Warmly,
Carrie and Jeri 🙏
